As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining reliable, high-performance data pipelines that support analytics, reporting, and digital workflows across the upstream oil and gas value chain. This role combines technical expertise, problem-solving, and optimization skills to ensure data is accurate, reliable, and readily available across environments. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in SQL, Python, and AWS data services, along with a deep understanding of data modeling and ETL processes. Key Responsibilities
- Understand complex data structures and analyze datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies that inform business decisions.
- Diagnose and resolve issues within data pipelines, infrastructure, and workflows to ensure reliability and data integrity.
- Improve query performance, workflow efficiency, and system scalability across multiple environments and platforms.
- Develop and maintain data pipelines and automation scripts using SQL and Python.
- Define and implement facts and dimensions to support enterprise reporting, analytics, and business intelligence use cases.
- Design, build, and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using modern data engineering tools and frameworks.
- Create, maintain, and leverage DEV/TEST/PROD environments to manage and promote data pipelines, processes, and data products.
- Utilize AWS services such as Athena, DynamoDB, S3, Glue, and Lambda to build scalable, cloud-native data solutions.
- Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and compliance with corporate standards and best practices.
- Partner with analysts, developers, and business stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver effective, scalable solutions
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or relevant work experience
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python for data manipulation and automation
- Hands-on experience with ETL tools and frameworks
- Practical understanding of data modeling concepts
- Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably AWS
- Ability to optimize queries and workflows for performance and scalability
- Solid understanding of data architecture principles, version control, and environment management (DEV/TEST/PROD)
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with upstream data is required
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working multiple projects (splitting time) while meeting deadlines
- Ability to travel to client sites on an as-needed basis
