This position will be hybrid with travel to client sites up to 50% of the time.

As an AI Data Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining data pipelines optimized for AI workloads. You will work at the intersection of traditional data engineers and MLOps, enabling scalable, automated, and production-ready data systems. Understanding the unique operations workflows of exploration, drilling, production, and other functional areas in the oil and gas industry – you can translate those needs into scalable digital solutions. Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines tailored for machine learning and AI applications
- Prepare, clean and transform structured and unstructured data for model training, inference, and deployment
- Develop and automate data ingestion and feature engineering processes to support predictive and generative AI models
- Build and manage feature stores and vector databases to support real-time and batch AI workflows
- Implement robust data workflows and pipelines that support AI/ML models in production environments (MLOps)
- Collaborate with data scientists to operationalize models and monitor performance, including model drift and data integrity
- Optimize data pipelines and models for performance, scalability, and reliability in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Monitor and ensure data quality, consistence, and performance across AI systems
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or relevant work experience
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 2 years focused on AI/ML workloads
- Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Experience with data pipeline tools (Apache Airflow, Spark, Databricks)
- Familiarity with MLOps frameworks and tools (MLflow, Kubelow, Vertex AI)
- Hands-on experience with feature stores, vector databases, and scalable data architecture
- Solid understanding of machine learning workflows and how data supports model lifecycle
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance in AI systems
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker
- Familiarity with upstream or midstream systems and concepts is preferred
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience working multiple projects (splitting time) while meeting deadlines
- Ability to travel to client sites on an as-needed basis
