The Shaw Group Limited, a large Nova Scotia-based manufacturer, had a need for a senior, experienced MIS manager to provide strategic and technical leadership to divisional general managers and internal information technology staff. Rather than recruit and employ a full time Director of MIS, the company executive decided to engage Novus on a part time contractual basis. Our mandate was to work with the divisional staff to develop divisional and corporate systems plans and, at the same time, assess and report on the capability of the internal resources to carry the ongoing IT responsibilities.
At the same time, Shaw Group was starting up a new business, Shaw Wood, a state-of-the-art furniture manufacturing plant. We worked with the management and staff to establish systems specifications, evaluate alternate systems including the due diligence and negotiate procurement and support contracts.
