A botanical garden had been initiated in Edmundston, N.B. as a potential generator of tourism revenue. The initial design and construction had been completed when the project encountered significant financial challenges and was temporarily closed. Don Shiner was hired to prepare a review of the project to-date and to make recommendations on the future of the project including its feasibility and then develop a five-year business plan. The Province of New Brunswick accepted his recommendations and today the gardens spread out over an area of 7 hectares (17 acres). This peaceful haven presents over 80,000 plants in 8 thematic gardens. Winner of the silver Excellence Award in 3D at the 2003 Mosäicultures International in Montreal, the topiary "Malobiannah" is permanently in exhibition in the garden. The garden is situated alongside the Trans-Canada highway 8 km from the Quebec / New Brunswick border and has proven to be a strong tourism attraction.
